Landmarks Commi ion contemplating A le's third NYC store design

The Landmarks Preservation Commi ion (LPC), which oversees the design a roval proce within the Ladies Mile Historic District limits, is getting grief from the district's community board about A le's architectural pla for New York's Flatiron District.

One board member slammed the latest building proposal for an A le mini-store, calling it %26quot rutally moder quot; and urging the LPC to reject A le's pla for the second time. This, after the first proposal had already been denied a Certificate of A ropriatene due in part to a too-bright backlit A le logo and too-glitzy facade. There's another hearing scheduled for tomorrow (July 26) where A le will try to convince the commi ion to sign off on the new pla without the su ort of the community board.

My advice? Forget about a third Manhattan location and come to Brooklyn! There's a fabulous bit of brand- anking new retail ace available right here in tony Brooklyn Heights that my neighbors and I would welcome you to with open arms.
