France to A le: Open iTunes, iPod

Earlier today,French lawmakers pa ed the online copyrightlaw, effectively forcing A le to open the proprietary format in use for iTunes and the iPod. This would enablerivals to create competing products. The vote was 296-193 in favor, and deliberatio over the new legislation shouldbegin in May.

It will be very interesting indeed to see what ha e here. As an aside to iTunes users inFrance: You may want to amp up your downloading between now and May, just in case A le decides to pull the plug oniTMS France.
