The Newton OS on non-A le hardware

The big newsout of the Worldwide NewtonConference this weekend is that Paul Guyot has succe fully gotten the Newton OS up and ru ing on a Sharp Zaurus. This emulation projectis called "Ei tein," and a beta is available fordownload today. If you have a Linux-based PDA with X11 su ort, you can run the Newton OS! You can view the slidesfrom Paul's presentation online [link:PDF]

As Steve said, thesoul of the Macintosh is not the hardware used to run it, but in the software. The same is true of the Newt. Theproject is still very much a beta, so don't expect your Sharp to function just as your 2100 does. Still, this is quitea feat. Well done, Paul!
