iPodfun.de, a German iPod enthusiast site, did some digging and actually stumbled acro a document (PDF) on A le's own we ite making mention of a "touch-screen" iPod. It ecifically covers the Note feature similar to the current implementation, but states that "other Notes feature capabilities described in this document are su orted for iPod models with di lay scree , begi ing with the touch-screen models." (Emphasis mine.)
Unle A le is just me ing with us -- distinct po ibility -- I think this basically all-but-confirms the touch-screen 'Pod's impending release. As if we really needed a botch like this to convince us.
Here again is the link to the actual PDF document (grab it before A le does!), and you can visit iPodfun.de's original (German) article here.

Update: Several readers are pointing to the MacRumors analysis of the document: It seems to be referencing older Notes features of the iPod, and when it says "all other Notes feature cabailities," it actually mea the le -advanced features. And when they say "touch-screen," they actually mean "touch-wheel" a la click-wheel. A typo. All of this over a typo. They probably did it purposely. Pfff.
Chalk it up to excitement, I su ose.
